About

DaVinci Resolve Studio Overview

DaVinci Resolve Studio is Blackmagic Design’s complete post-production application for macOS. What makes it unusual is scope: editing, color grading, visual effects, motion graphics, and audio post all live inside one program, and you switch between them with tabs at the bottom of the window rather than exporting between separate apps.

Resolve started life as a color grading system used on feature films, and that heritage still shows. The Color page is the most respected part of the app — node-based grading, unlimited secondaries, tracking, HDR tools, and scopes that colorists actually trust. Plenty of studios cut in another editor and still bring the project into Resolve purely to finish the grade.

The Studio version adds the professional tier on top of the base app: higher resolution support, more GPU processing, the neural engine features, additional effects and noise reduction, and the collaboration tools that let an editor, colorist, and sound mixer work on the same timeline simultaneously. For a small team or a solo operator handling every stage of a project, it removes most of the round-tripping.

Features

  • Node-based color grading — the Color page offers primaries, secondaries, power windows, tracking, and scopes built for professional finishing.
  • Full editing suite — a traditional Edit page plus the Cut page, designed for fast turnaround work.
  • Fusion visual effects — node-based compositing, 3D, keying, and motion graphics built directly into the app.
  • Fairlight audio post — a complete mixing environment with track automation, effects, and surround support.
  • Neural engine tools — AI-assisted features such as object masking, face refinement, speed warp retiming, and voice isolation.
  • Advanced noise reduction — temporal and spatial noise reduction for cleaning up difficult footage.
  • HDR and high-resolution support — work in HDR color spaces and handle resolutions beyond 4K.
  • Multi-user collaboration — several people can work on the same project timeline at once across different roles.
  • Broad format support — handles RAW, ProRes, BRAW, and a wide range of professional camera formats natively.
  • GPU acceleration — multiple GPU support and optimization for Apple silicon for real-time playback and faster renders.

Who It’s For

Editors and colorists handling full post-production pipelines: filmmakers, commercial and documentary teams, freelance colorists finishing other people’s projects, and creators who would rather learn one deep application than stitch four together.
